Joseph O'Neill has won the 2009 Pen/Faulkner Award for Fiction for his novel Netherland. The Pen/Faulkner Award honors the best works of fiction by American citizens. Previous winners include Kate Christensen, Philip Roth, John Updike, Ann Patchett, Ha Jin, and E. Annie Proulx.
